Having looked through my previous
topics, I realized that I hadn't written about the way which I get to the
University(this way is, firstly, an electric train, and then underground).
Frankly speaking, it is not surprising because I thought that my blog's readers
would not be interested in my way. Really, many of us use an electric train to
get to work, school, and University. However, last week I got an experience
which many of people had not got.

It wasn't a secret
for me that sometimes electric train at 7:40 a.m. goes from Odintsovo to Moscow
more than 25 minutes as it is written in a timetable because of many stops. But
these stops were not longer than 5 minutes, so I wasn't worry about it.
However, I made a mistake.
Having caught the
train, I noticed that there were more people than usually, so I had to stay in
a narrow passage with too many people around me. I even could not make a single
movement! But it was only start of my problems. Having gone 3 stations, the
train was
stucked. A machinist turned off the heating and opened doors. All crowds began
waiting. At the beginning I thought that it was an ordinary stop that would be
no longer than 5 minutes. But then I began noticing that 5, 10,15,20,30 minutes
were flowing...all crowd became anxious. Some people decided to catch the bus
or phone to the machinist so that to know what had happened... After 50 minutes
of delay I realized that I had late for the first lecture for almost 40
minutes. In other words, it meant that I had hurried for nothing. Moreover, I
was very tired to stay within the crowd without opportunity to make a single
movement. But I couldn't make a thing. After one hour the train set off and
people began applauding. However, the one hour delay meant that I almost missed
the first lecture at NES and at the same time thousands of people delayed for
work.
In conclusion, I'd
like to ask myself and other people a rhetorical question: “Did it case show
that we always should do what we want to do? “ My answer is not, but henceforth
I will think more about my decisions. Sometimes in can be useful.
Yes, I don't think that you should take this experience as a sign that you should skip class when you want to. However, it does remind me of the saying that "hindsight is always 20/20." Do you have this expression in Russian? Basically, it means that when we look back, we always have perfect vision. However, it's always used at times when we couldn't have predicted what was going to happen ahead of time.
ОтветитьУдалитьI remember the day, but I can say that I understand your feelings then). I can only guess what I would feel realizing I could sleep normally one hour more – 5 whole hours! Though the first photo to a post is great, a little bit worse in real life)) – did you take a photo yourself?
ОтветитьУдалитьI agree with you. It is really terrible when, because of traffic jams or such unexpected events, you are late. The worst thing is that in such situation you can do nothing to change it, the only thing you can do is just keep calm and wait.
ОтветитьУдалитьHowever, I agree with David that your wish to sleep is not a good reason for being absent on the lectures. On the other hand sometimes it is really necessary to listen to your inner voice and follow its advice.
Oh, I remember that terrible day…
ОтветитьУдалитьJust like you, I’ve missed the train at 7-25 and had been regretting for event for next 2 hours. Yeah, we spend almost two hours in vain! It would be okay if the train was empty. But it was full of people who were late for their work or for university. It even was hard to breathe!
Well, there was one plus – I slept for 30 minutes there standing on my feet. As the train was full of people, I didn’t fall to the floor. Wonderful feeling :).
Oh, it's really terrible experience! I hate such moments of my life! But I should say, despite, I go to the university from Moscow region and also use electric trains, electronic trains from my part of region are never missed, and even never late, and aways come in time. So, it's very strange for me when students come to lessons and say that their electronic train broke down or late for an hour.
ОтветитьУдалитьRoma, I also find commuting a terrible thing. Although I don’t use an electric train, I spend more than an hour to get to the university. The very worst thing about commuting is the overcrowded public transport. The metro station I live near to is the last one on the grey line, so I always have a chance to get in the train. But some people who live closer to the downtown have to wait for about 10-15 minutes only to get in the train. I just hope that the traffic situation in Moscow won’t become even worse!
ОтветитьУдалитьI really surprised with the fact that many of you catch the train at 7-25. Except Wednesdays, I always take the train an hour before class begins. So, 7-55 train is more common for me. Actually, I don't agree with Roman that this train is too overcrowded. Moreover, I can sleep a bit more.
ОтветитьУдалитьThe thing I (and any other, I suppose) absolutely agree with is that you depend on a circumstances. If a train is late, you are late. Unfortunately, you can do nothing with it.
I can understand you perfectly well because that day I was also stuck in that train! Moreover, I also slept for only 3 hours before that terrible event. I don’t understand how we survived in that overcrowded train where one minute seemed to last forever. Because of the stuffiness I was nearly unconscious! By the way, don’t you know what the cause of the train’s stop was?
